Some projects have interesting challenges. In 1999, when Bill Lett was just getting his career underway, the Studio was hired to design a “boathouse” for the City of Peterborough to celebrate the Millennium. To accommodate canoe storage at the lower level the building was designed to flood on purpose in the spring when water levels are higher. This involved a structure on piles and grade beams to allow this to happen. Now, sixteen years later, the project is still performing as designed. You can see in this photo from today that the water is well above the doors.
