BARRIE FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES STATION #1
Barrie, Ontario
Located in the heart of Barrie, the new Station #1 will be an open, welcoming community-focused building that celebrates the tradition and pride of the fire service while embracing the future. The building shall be a model of sustainable design and support the department’s dedication to saving lives and commitment to community service. The new building will sit on a brownfield site where the old Dunlop Arena was demolished as part of the scope of work. Wood trusses were salvaged from the old rink and will be re-used in the new design. The main floor of the design includes 5 drive-through bays, SCBA room, laundry, two dorm rooms, men’s and women’s lockers, exercise room, kitchen, dining room, lounge, platoon chiefs office, training classroom, Barrie Fire Department offices and a small heritage space. The second floor houses the Emergency Communications centre which includes a dispatch area, communications offices as well as the fire chief and deputy fire chief offices. The building, which is currently under construction, is targeting LEED Gold certification.
