KING STREET PARKING GARAGE

Peterborough, Ontario

Built as a design-build project by Aon Inc, this parking garage is owned and operated by the City of Peterborough. Located in the centre of the downtown.  The garage provides state of the art parking for 625 cars and features three column free floors, easy in and out circulation with no tight ramps, easy visibility in all areas, and well lit floors, stairs and elevators. For added security  the stairs have glass walls to the outside and the elevators have glass backs facing King Street. Of precast concrete construction the garage was built in just 7 months from May 1996 to November 1996. A system of mid-block pedestrian walkways join the garage to the adjacent shopping streets and a trellis defined walkway bisects the garage joining the Federal Government Office Building to the rest of the downtown. Lett Architects received a 1998 Precast Concrete Institute Certificate of Special Recognition for Creative Design for the garage.
