MARKET HALL PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

Peterborough, Ontario

Construction has begun for the complete renovation of Peterborough's historic Market. This project will see the 'Hall' portion of the building completely restored back to its original form with a new 350 seat performing arts centre inserted into the space. The design of the theatre with its stage at floor level will allow for a variety of performance types. The aesthetics of the inserted elements will be clean and transparent in order to take advantage of the great volume of the 'Hall', its historic elements and acoustic properties. There will be a new lobby as well as back-of-house support spaces such as dressing rooms and green room. The project is being funded through Canada's Action Plan with the Theatre slated for completion in January 2011.
